Support Groups
Rogers Memorial Hospital hosts three completely free eating disorders support groups in southeastern Wisconsin. We’ve put together this poster for you to print out or distribute as you see fit. The poster contains complete information about each of our National Association for Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders (ANAD) support groups.
After proper diagnosis and treatment, the support from others can be a vital part of the recovery process. Our support groups provide self-help through facilitated meetings.
Reasons to join
In addition to participating in the support group sessions, you will meet people from your community who can relate to your experiences. You may learn valuable information about mental health professionals and services in your area as well as tips and techniques others use to manage their illness. Some support group chapters offer services in addition to their group sessions, such as educational sessions, newsletters, lending libraries and special events. Some offer information on mental health professionals in your area or upcoming mental health legislation in your state.
What to look for
When you consider joining a support group, you should look for one that:
- Provides a safe, secure and welcoming environment
- Respects your confidentiality
- Encourages respect among members
- Is convenient to your home or place of work
- Offers several meetings each week that fit your schedule
- Is run by both experienced professionals and supportive peers
- Accesses a network of guest speakers and professionals
Remember, support groups are not a substitute for professional care.
