Disordered eating often emerges in the form of preoccupation with weight, food, body shape and appearance. Behaviors indicated such may indicate a need for further screening for an eating disorder.Rogers Memorial Hospital-Milwaukee offers inpatient hospitalization in an acute, behavioral health setting for both children and adolescents who require intensive treatment specifically for an eating disorder. The primary goals of this highly specialized unit are nutritional and medical stabilization, identification of comorbid illnesses, psychoeducation for the family, and transition to a structured yet less restrictive level of care.

TREATMENT COMPONENTS
Our treatment philosophy emphasizes family involvement and participation as well as education about the eating disorder. Treatment components may include:
- Group therapy
- Family-focused therapy with family meals
- Cognitive-behavioral therapy
- Nutritional monitoring, education and meal planning
- Experiential therapy (art, relaxation, recreational and body image work as appropriate)
- Individual and family education
- Spirituality (upon request and with parental consent)
- School time led by an education specialist
- Multi-family sessions on weekends led by social worker and dietitian
- Medication management and monitoring (only if clinically indicated and upon parent consent)
TREATMENT TEAM
Upon admission, each patient and family meets with members of the multidisciplinary treatment team for a comprehensive evaluation, which forms the basis of a personalized plan of care. Members of the treatment team may include:
- Board-certified child and adolescent psychiatrist
- Internal medicine physician
- Licensed psychologist
- Registered psychiatric nurses
- Registered dietitians
- Masters prepared social workers/counselors
- Experiential therapists (art, relaxation, recreation)
- Mental health technicians
